Dharmshala, May 12: In a thrilling encounter of IPL 2026, the Delhi Capitals (DC) defeated the Punjab Kings (PBKS), keeping their playoff aspirations alive. The standout performer for DC was 22-year-old Madhav Tiwari, who excelled with both bat and ball.
Madhav made a significant impact by claiming the crucial wickets of PBKS openers Priyansh Arya and Cooper Conolly, who had both scored half-centuries. Later, he showcased his batting skills by scoring an unbeaten 18 runs off just 8 balls, leading Delhi Capitals to their fifth victory of the season. For his remarkable all-round performance, Madhav was awarded the ‘Player of the Match.’
Reflecting on his outstanding display, Madhav expressed gratitude to the team management for the opportunity. He stated, “I feel very lucky to be part of a winning team. My mindset is always to improve in every practice session, especially when things are not in your control. I worked extensively on my bowling with Munaf Patel and focused on range-hitting with the batting coach. It was enjoyable, and I’m glad I could contribute to the team.”
When asked whether he identifies more as a batsman or a bowler, Madhav confidently replied that he is “100 percent both.” Discussing his bowling strategy during the match, he noted, “I felt the length balls were getting assistance from the wicket, so I focused on that initially. I tried to mix in some wide and short deliveries. I was fully prepared, and the pitch was also aiding fast bowlers.”
Madhav also credited Delhi Capitals’ batting coach Ian Bell for boosting his confidence. He shared, “Our batting coach (Ian Bell) simply told me, ‘You have the power, you have everything. Just don’t try to do anything different. Maintain your shape and play the shot after watching the ball.’”
