Chennai, May 10: In a thrilling encounter during IPL 2026, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) triumphed over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by five wickets. Following this eighth defeat of the season, LSG captain Rishabh Pant expressed his disappointment.
Pant acknowledged that his team dropped several crucial catches, which ultimately cost them the match. After the loss at MA Chidambaram Cricket Stadium, he stated, “It was clearly a fantastic match. Everything was going well, but we knew they would put us under pressure, as is typical in Chennai. In T20, the standard of fielding must be high, and we missed many catches.”
The LSG captain praised Urvil Patel’s impressive performance, saying, “Urvil played a brilliant, incredible innings, similar to what Josh Inglis did for us. We knew someone had to take the responsibility to attack. Inglis did that for us, and Urvil did it for CSK. However, we kept fighting and had our chances. Given how we started, we wanted to add more runs to the scoreboard. We knew that a score around 200-210 would be good. Batting was easier at the start but became challenging later.”
The defeat against CSK has made LSG’s path to the playoffs even more difficult. Batting first, LSG scored 203 runs, losing eight wickets in their 20 overs. Josh Inglis was the standout performer, smashing 85 runs off just 33 balls, while Shahbaz Ahmed contributed an unbeaten 43 runs from 25 balls.
However, CSK successfully chased down the target, achieving 204 runs in 19.2 overs with the loss of five wickets. Urvil Patel dazzled with a quickfire 65 runs off just 23 balls. Ruturaj Gaikwad added 42 runs from 28 balls, and Sanju Samson chipped in with 28 runs from 14 balls.
