LSG Breaks Losing Streak with Victory Over RCB in IPL 2026

Lucknow, May 8: In an exciting match at the Ekana Stadium, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) faced off against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Thursday in IPL 2026. LSG ended their six-match losing streak by defeating RCB by nine runs in a rain-affected game. Historically, RCB has benefitted from batting first, and this match was no exception.

In the IPL, teams often choose to bowl first after winning the toss. In the T20 format, chasing is generally preferred. Typically, the outcomes favor teams batting second. However, LSG’s statistics tell a different story. Their record while batting first is significantly better than when they bat second.

Since their debut season in 2022, LSG has played a total of 68 matches. Out of these, they batted first in 38 games, winning 21 and losing 16, with one match ending without a result. Their win percentage when batting first stands at 56.75%. In contrast, when batting second in 30 matches, they have won only 12 and lost 18, resulting in a win percentage of 40.0%. Thus, batting first has consistently been advantageous for LSG.

RCB won the toss and invited LSG to bat. Breaking their losing streak of six matches, LSG emerged victorious by nine runs.

This season has been disappointing for LSG, as they have only won three out of ten matches, suffering losses in seven. Their chances of reaching the playoffs are slim. However, strong performances in the remaining four matches could boost their confidence for the next season.
