Kolkata, February 22: A low-pressure system forming over the Bay of Bengal is expected to bring rain to several parts of West Bengal in the next two days.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Alipore, light rain and thunderstorms may occur in some districts of South Bengal and areas of North Bengal on Monday and Tuesday. However, the weather department has clarified that no heavy rainfall is anticipated, with precipitation expected to remain light to moderate.
The weather forecast indicates that districts such as Jhargram, West Midnapore, East Midnapore, South 24 Parganas, and North 24 Parganas in South Bengal may experience rain. Additionally, due to the influence of a western disturbance, the districts of Jalpaiguri, Darjeeling, and Kalimpong in North Bengal may also see rainfall.
An official from the weather department stated that the low-pressure situation will result in cloud cover over some areas, leading to light rain, but widespread or heavy rainfall is not expected. Following this, predominantly dry weather is forecasted for the state over the next seven days.
During the next two days, the minimum temperature across the state could rise by about two degrees Celsius. In Kolkata and surrounding areas, the minimum temperature is expected to reach 21 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature may range between 29 and 31 degrees Celsius.
After a prolonged winter, this potential rainfall could impact the agricultural sector. This period is particularly crucial for potato crops, as the process of transferring them to cold storage is underway. Consequently, there are concerns that rain could damage the crops.
On Saturday, Kolkata recorded a minimum temperature of 19.5 degrees Celsius, which is normal for this time of year, while the maximum temperature reached 31.3 degrees Celsius, slightly above the normal range by 0.8 degrees. The relative humidity was recorded at a minimum of 38 percent and a maximum of 83 percent.
