New Delhi, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain has clinched a gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games, marking a significant achievement for the country. Competing in the 75 kg final, she triumphed over China’s Bao Jiyai with a unanimous 5-0 decision.
Ajay Singh, President of the Boxing Federation of India (BFI), expressed his pride in Lovlina’s accomplishment. He stated, “This was a very tough match. I am incredibly happy. It truly is a historic victory. Lovlina is the first Indian woman boxer to reach the finals in two Asian Games. I am very, very proud of her. She showcased her boxing skills with a brilliant strategy today, making it a pleasure to watch. She is now a significant role model for girls across the country.”
Previously, Lovlina reached the finals in the last Asian Games but fell short of winning gold, settling for a silver medal. This time, she demonstrated both patience and aggression, decisively defeating her opponent and securing the gold.
With this victory, Lovlina becomes only the second Indian woman boxer to win a gold medal at the Asian Games, following the footsteps of Mary Kom. Notably, Lovlina is also the only female boxer from India to have won both gold and silver medals in the history of the Asian Games.
Coincidentally, Lovlina celebrated her 29th birthday on the same day she won gold, making this achievement a memorable highlight of her special day.
