Hubli, September 22 (Daily Kiran) : In a major crackdown on corruption, Lokayukta officials conducted simultaneous raids on four locations linked to two engineers from the Hubli Electricity Supply Company (Hescom) on September 22, 2026. The operation targeted Kiran Kumar Binduru, an Assistant Executive Engineer (AEE), and his wife, Shruti, also an AEE at Hescom.
The raids were led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Basavaraj Budni, who confirmed that the action was part of an investigation into allegations of disproportionate assets. The Lokayukta team executed searches at Kiran Kumar’s brother’s residence in Dharwad, as well as at the Hescom office in Hubli, and the couple’s home and office in the city.
According to reports, the couple has been under scrutiny for some time, with complaints suggesting they amassed wealth beyond their known sources of income. The raids included their residence in Akshay Park, the Hescom office located in Tabib Land, and another office in Gopanakoppa where Shruti is stationed.
The operation sent shockwaves through the engineer’s family, as Lokayukta officials began examining documents, property papers, and bank accounts for evidence of illicit wealth. Preliminary findings indicate a significant amount of assets may be uncovered, although exact figures will be available only after the investigation concludes.
Deputy SP Budni stated that the operation involved four locations and emphasized that a thorough investigation is ongoing. The case has sparked discussions about the accumulation of wealth by engineers in public service, raising concerns among other officials about the implications of such actions.
