Liverpool, April 5: The French centre-back, Ibrahima Konate, joined Liverpool in 2021 from RB Leipzig for £35 million. Since then, he has overcome frequent injuries to become Virgil van Dijk’s preferred partner in defense.
However, this partnership may be at risk. Konate, 26, is currently under contract only until the end of the season and is poised to leave the club in the summer of 2026. This scenario could spell disaster for sporting director Richard Hughes, who aims to retain this valuable asset.
Fabrizio Romano has provided Liverpool fans with a glimmer of hope regarding Konate’s future. He reports that contract discussions are ongoing, and the player is open to remaining at Merseyside.
“Liverpool remain in active conversations with Ibrahima Konate and his camp over a new contract,” Romano stated in Caught Offside. “There are discussions ongoing with the French defender. At the moment, there’s still nothing finalized or agreed, but the conversations are still underway.”
