New Delhi, May 9: The Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Sardar Tarnjeet Singh Sandhu, has launched a significant initiative for the conservation and restoration of water bodies in the capital as summer begins. During a crucial presentation by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), he instructed officials to complete the tasks within the designated timeframe.
The Lieutenant Governor shared details on the social media platform X, stating that a solid action plan has been developed for the preservation and rejuvenation of Delhi’s invaluable yet rapidly deteriorating water resources. He announced that the DDA will immediately commence the restoration of 77 water bodies. Among these, the revitalization of 6 water bodies will be completed within the next 30 days, 48 within 60 days, and the remaining 23 within 90 days.
He emphasized the urgent need to strengthen water conservation in the capital, especially as Delhi faces a water crisis and environmental challenges. The Lieutenant Governor directed officials to expedite the implementation of all projects and ensure strict adherence to the timelines.
During the meeting, discussions also covered other major projects related to the development of Delhi. Notably, the comprehensive development and infrastructure enhancement plans for the sub-cities of Dwarka, Rohini, and Narela were reviewed. Officials were instructed to accelerate development efforts in these areas and improve civic amenities.
Earlier, in response to the heatwave action plan, Delhi’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the government is fully prepared at all levels. Clear guidelines have been issued to all departments to minimize difficulties for residents during the extreme heat.
The Chief Minister also provided relief for workers, directing all employers through the labor department to allow workers a few hours of rest during the afternoon and to avoid outdoor work. Additionally, it will be the employers’ responsibility to provide water, shade, and other essential facilities.
Regarding schools, she emphasized that the safety of children is the top priority. Schools must ensure adequate water, fans, and heat protection measures. Every child should be given an ORS solution before leaving school to help them cope with the heat on their way home.
