Leaders pay tributes on Martyrs’ day

New Delhi, March 23 : Tributes poured in from various quarters for revolutionaries Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru on their death anniversary on Wednesday. The three young men were hanged on this day in 1931 at the Lahore Central Jail. on Home Minister Amit Shah described Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru as “strong pillars of the Indian independence movement whose … sacrifices still inspire (people) to serve the nation”. Congess leader Rahul Gandhi said the ideas of the three martyrs “will remain immortal forever. Whenever a voice will be raised against injustice, these martyrs will have an expression in that voice”. BJP President J P Nadda said he wished to pay his humble tributes to the three men. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal tweeted that he bowed to Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru, “the immortal icons of the country’s freedom movement… Every countryman will always be indebted to their immortal sacrifice”. Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev and Rajguru, who were all members of the Hindustan Socialist Republican Army (HSRA), were hanged on charges of killing a police officer in Lahore. They were to be hanged on March 24 but their execution was forwarded by 11 hours and they were hanged on March 23, 1931 evening. JA MR
