Leaders Celebrate National Technology Day, Highlight Indias Scientific Progress

New Delhi, May 11: Today marks the 28th anniversary of the nuclear tests conducted at Pokhran in 1998, celebrated annually as National Technology Day. On this occasion, prominent leaders, including Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, extended their greetings to the nation’s scientists and engineers.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla took to social media platform ‘X’ to express, “May 11, 1998, was a historic day when India showcased its scientific prowess, confidence, and strategic strength to the world from the land of Pokhran, Rajasthan. The Pokhran-2 nuclear tests announced the rise of a self-reliant, empowered, and decisive India. This achievement granted India a new identity on the global stage and strengthened our security, sovereignty, and technological capabilities. Today, on National Technology Day, we salute the scientists, engineers, and every Indian whose hard work and determination have propelled India to new heights in technology and innovation.”

He further stated, “From Chandrayaan and Mangalyaan to Gaganyaan, and from semiconductors to AI, and defense production to nuclear energy, India is rapidly advancing towards a new era of self-reliance and modern technology. National Technology Day reinforces our commitment to a self-sufficient, developed, and technologically advanced India.”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also conveyed his wishes to tech experts and tech-savvy youth on National Technology Day. In his post on ‘X’, he wrote, “The Modi government is accelerating India’s development by harnessing the creative potential of youth through several revolutionary initiatives. I hope this day serves as an inspiration for them to seize these opportunities and further propel our journey towards greatness.”

Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, shared his greetings, stating, “Heartfelt wishes on National Technology Day. On this day in 1998, under the leadership of the great Atal Bihari Vajpayee and missile man Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the nuclear tests at Pokhran were successfully conducted.”

Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan posted, “Warm wishes and congratulations to all scientists, engineers, and technicians dedicated to building a strong, modern, and self-reliant India on National Technology Day. On this day in 1998, under the leadership of former Prime Minister and Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee, India showcased its scientific capability, strength, and confidence to the world through successful nuclear tests at Pokhran. We pay tribute to all scientists and technical experts whose dedication, innovation, and invaluable contributions have taken our country to new heights in science and technology.”

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, while extending her greetings on National Technology Day, remarked, “It is your unwavering dedication and innovative spirit that has enabled India to set new benchmarks in the global tech arena. The strength of our scientists is the greatest asset in our shared commitment to a developed India.”

Former Bihar Chief Minister and Rajya Sabha MP Nitish Kumar expressed, “Heartfelt wishes to all scientists and technical experts in the country on National Technology Day. This day, celebrated on the anniversary of the historic nuclear tests in 1998, symbolizes our nation’s scientific capability and self-reliance. I believe our country will continue to progress in the fields of science and technology.”
