Thiruvananthapuram, May 1: The Left Democratic Front (LDF) in Kerala has rejected the predictions made by exit polls ahead of the assembly election results. Instead, they are emphasizing the popularity of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan as their greatest strength.
The LDF, led by the CPM, claims that multiple surveys have identified Pinarayi Vijayan as the most favored candidate for the chief minister position. This reflects his acceptance among the public and trust in the government’s performance.
CPM General Secretary M. A. Baby stated that there is no anti-incumbency wave in the state. He believes that the allegations against the Chief Minister have not swayed voters.
Post-election, LDF leaders argue that the close contests indicated by exit polls do not signify defeat but rather a tight race. They are optimistic that the LDF can return to power based on the final results.
The leftist coalition argues that Pinarayi Vijayan’s personal popularity, stable leadership, and the benefits of government schemes will ultimately convert into votes.
However, political analysts point out a contradiction in the LDF’s stance. While they dismiss the exit polls, they simultaneously accept the popularity ratings for Vijayan from the same surveys. Experts suggest that if the data indicating the Chief Minister’s popularity is deemed credible, it is challenging to completely disregard the seat projections.
Nonetheless, the LDF maintains that a leader’s popularity and actual voting patterns do not always align, suggesting that the outcome could change on counting day.
It is noteworthy that the counting of votes will commence at 8 AM on Monday. The first two hours will likely reveal who will hold the keys to the Kerala Secretariat for the next five years. Most exit polls indicate a return of the Congress-led UDF, while the LDF remains hopeful for a favorable final decision.
