Lalit Modi Questions Umpires Decision on Angkrish Raghuwanshis Dismissal

New Delhi, April 27: Former IPL chairman Lalit Modi has expressed his belief that the umpire’s decision to dismiss Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batsman Angkrish Raghuwanshi for ‘obstructing the field’ was incorrect. He stated that he reviewed the clip multiple times and did not see any change in the batsman’s running path.

Modi shared his thoughts on his social media account, ‘X’, saying, “I think the umpire’s call during the match on Sunday night was wrong. I watched the clip repeatedly. IPL fans have a unified perspective on both out and not-out decisions. Let the inquiry committee determine if it was a good or bad call. Honestly, I was watching from afar on TV; it seemed to me that Angkrish did not change direction.”

During the fifth over of KKR’s innings, Angkrish played a shot towards mid-on and sprinted for a quick run. However, Cameron Green at the other end sent him back. In an effort to save his wicket, Angkrish dived, but a throw from the fielder struck his leg. This prompted a strong appeal from LSG captain Rishabh Pant and his teammates. The on-field umpires consulted the third umpire and declared Angkrish out for ‘obstructing the field’.

Angkrish appeared visibly upset with the umpire’s decision, hitting his bat against the boundary rope as he returned to the pavilion. In frustration, he also threw his helmet. KKR’s head coach Abhishek Nayar was also seen agitated by the decision and engaged in a lengthy discussion with the umpires.

In the 38th match of IPL 2026, KKR triumphed over LSG in a super over. KKR scored 155 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their 20 overs, with Rinku Singh leading the charge with a remarkable 83 runs. LSG matched KKR’s score, also finishing with 155 runs but losing 8 wickets, resulting in a tie.

In the super over, Sunil Narine delivered an outstanding performance, dismissing Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram with just three balls, allowing LSG to score only 1 run. Rinku then stepped up to bat for KKR, hitting a boundary on the first ball to secure the team’s second consecutive victory of the season.
