Kriti Sanon Faces Backlash Over Raksha Bandhan Ad, Brand Pulls Campaign

Mumbai, August 26: Bollywood actress Kriti Sanon is currently in the spotlight due to her Raksha Bandhan advertisement. The ad faced significant criticism on social media regarding her outfit. In response to the trolling, Kriti stated that the true essence of any festival lies not in the clothing but in the emotions and relationships associated with it. Following the controversy, the jewelry brand has decided to remove the advertisement from all platforms.

The brand issued a statement on Instagram on Wednesday, saying, “We respect Indian culture, traditions, and festivals. As a brand, we have always believed in celebrating these joyful moments with the entire family. This time, we wanted to include our pets in this love and celebration. However, if the advertisement has hurt the sentiments of any community, we sincerely apologize. We have decided to withdraw the advertisement from all media platforms.”

On August 25, Kriti addressed the criticism on her Instagram account. She wrote, “Festivals are not about the clothes you wear but about the emotions and significance of those traditions. Raksha Bandhan symbolizes the bond of protection and love. My sister and I tie rakhi on each other, wishing for each other’s safety, good health, happiness, and longevity.”

Kriti further added, “For me, this love, prayer, and care extend to our dogs as well, as they are part of our family.” She then questioned, “When will we stop telling women what they should wear? There has been significant change in ethnic fashion over time, yet a woman’s respect for her culture is still measured by her clothing. Culture and traditions reside in a woman’s heart, not in her neckline.”

The entire controversy began with a Raksha Bandhan advertisement featuring Kriti Sanon in an off-white Indo-Western outfit, which included a bralette-style blouse, draped skirt, and cape. After the ad was released, some social media users deemed her attire inappropriate for the festival.

The situation gained further attention when Kangana Ranaut shared a post on her Instagram story. Although she did not mention Kriti by name, her comments were interpreted in connection with the advertisement.

Kangana wrote, “It is a wonderful time to be a woman. Our wardrobes are filled with various clothing options, and today’s woman is a global woman. From cocktail dresses to lehenga cholis, jeans to sarees, and bikinis to salwar-kameez, we have so many choices. So why would you tie rakhi to your brother in a bikini or undergarments? Where have all your styling options gone? Ha ha, this advertisement seems deliberately odd.”
