Mumbai, February 13: Following the victory of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in the recent elections, Shiv Sena leader Krishna Hegde expressed hope that persecution against Hindus would cease.

In an interview in Mumbai, Hegde praised BNP President Tarique Rahman, a well-known leader poised to become Bangladesh’s next Prime Minister. He noted that Rahman’s mother, Khaleda Zia, had previously held the same position. Hegde expressed optimism that under Rahman’s leadership, relations between India and Bangladesh would strengthen, fostering friendship and cooperation.

He emphasized that atrocities against Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh should come to an end during Rahman’s tenure. Hegde believes that trade between the two nations will increase, and the camaraderie that once existed will be restored, eliminating any differences. He expressed hope for positive foreign relations and congratulated Rahman on his electoral success.

Addressing criticism from the opposition regarding the India-U.S. trade deal, Hegde asserted that under Prime Minister Modi’s government, farmers are secure and empowered.

On the topic of “Vande Mataram,” Hegde remarked that it symbolizes respect and praise for one’s mother, specifically Mother India. He urged organizations like Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, whose leaders reside in India, to view the national anthem from a patriotic perspective rather than a religious one. He stated that everyone living in India should celebrate Mother India, regardless of their religion.

Hegde also commented on senior BJP MP Nishikant Dubey’s call for the Lok Sabha Speaker to revoke Rahul Gandhi’s membership, arguing that Gandhi’s remarks against the country, both domestically and internationally, tarnish India’s image. Dubey categorized these actions as anti-national, warranting the cancellation of Gandhi’s membership.
