Chennai, May 11: 29-year-old Kirtana, who won her first election from Sivakasi, has emerged as one of the most talked-about figures in Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s newly formed Tamil Nadu cabinet. Not only is Kirtana the youngest member of the cabinet, but she is also the sole woman minister in the new government.
Kirtana secured her seat in the assembly from Sivakasi, an area renowned as the “fireworks capital of India,” home to numerous firecracker factories.
She made history by becoming the first female MLA from Sivakasi in nearly seven decades, winning by a margin of 11,697 votes.
Political analysts believe her victory reflects the successful outreach of the TVK party among young voters and women in southern Tamil Nadu.
Before entering politics, Kirtana worked as a political consultant and digital strategist with major campaign firms like i-PAC and Showtime Consulting.
