Key Witness to Testify in Renukaswamy Murder Case Amid Heightened Security
A key witness in the Renukaswamy murder case will testify in Bengalurus court under strict security measures due to threats received.

Bengaluru, September 28 (Daily Kiran) : A significant development in the Renukaswamy murder case is set to unfold as Prodos, who has turned into a government witness, will testify in front of the 59th City Civil and Sessions Court in Bengaluru on Monday. His statement will be recorded amid heightened security measures.
The court is expected to capture Prodos’s detailed testimony over the next one to two days. His account is anticipated to shed light on events surrounding the alleged murder, both before and after it occurred.
Given the sensitivity of the case and reported threats from fans of actor Darshan towards Prodos, security has been intensified around the courthouse. The Central DCP zone has deployed an Assistant Commissioner of Police, three police inspectors, eight sub-inspectors, and over 40 police personnel to ensure his safety. Currently, Prodos is incarcerated in Bengaluru Central Jail and will be escorted to court under the protection of Kamakshipalya police, with jail officials accompanying him.
Initially designated as accused number 14 in the case, Prodos later submitted an 11-page application to the court, requesting permission to become a government witness and testify against other accused individuals. The court approved his request, although Darshan’s legal team challenged this decision in the Karnataka High Court. However, the High Court did not hear the petition.
As a government witness, Prodos will undergo extensive questioning regarding the alleged murder and related events. The trial court will record his testimony, but cross-examination will not occur at this stage. The court has determined that cross-examination will take place later, contingent upon the completion of cross-examination of the primary witness in the case.
Police have informed the court about the alleged threats to Prodos’s life. Consequently, the court has mandated that adequate security measures be taken during his transport from jail to court and back. This has resulted in enhanced security protocols being implemented within the courthouse.
The Renukaswamy murder case dates back to June 2024. According to prosecutors, 35-year-old Renukaswamy, a fan of actor Darshan, was reportedly kidnapped, assaulted, and subsequently murdered. His body was later discovered in the Kamakshipalya area of Bengaluru.
