
New Delhi, October 3 (Daily Kiran) : A significant reshuffle has occurred in India’s parliamentary committees for the 2026-27 term. Notable appointments include Raghav Chadha, a member of the Rajya Sabha, who has been assigned to the Committee on External Affairs. Swati Maliwal, who recently transitioned from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), will serve on the Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth, and Sports.
Nishikant Dubey of the BJP will continue as the chair of the Committee on Communications and Information Technology. Additionally, Sandeep Kumar Pathak has been appointed to the Committee on Housing and Urban Affairs.
Congress leaders also secured spots, with Rahul Gandhi joining the Committee on Defence and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra taking a role on the Committee on Home Affairs. Pawan Khera is another member of the Defence Committee.
This restructuring of parliamentary committees took effect on September 26, 2026. According to the Rajya Sabha’s parliamentary bulletin, new chairs have been appointed to several important committees, including those on Commerce, Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice, Chemicals and Fertilizers, Railways, Defence, Industry, and Finance.
Sudhanshu Trivedi from the BJP will now chair the Committee on Commerce, succeeding Dola Sen from the Trinamool Congress. Sujit Kumar from the BJP has been named chair of the Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice.
Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar from the NCP will lead the Committee on Chemicals and Fertilizers. Sudhir Gupta has taken charge of the Railway Committee, replacing C.M. Ramesh. Radha Mohan Singh has been appointed chair of the Defence Committee, while Tiruchi Shiva from the DMK will chair the Committee on Industry. Bhartuhari Mahatab will lead the Finance Committee.
Many current committee chairs will retain their positions. Congress leader Shashi Tharoor remains chair of the Committee on External Affairs, and Charanjit Singh Channi continues to lead the Committee on Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and Food Processing.
Mukul Wasnik will stay on as chair of the Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth, and Sports. Ram Gopal Yadav from the Samajwadi Party will also continue as chair of the Committee on Health and Family Welfare.
Other notable appointments include Satpgiri Shankar Ulaka for the Committee on Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, and Rajiv Pratap Rudy for the Committee on Water Resources. Sanjay Kumar Jha will remain chair of the Committee on Transport, Tourism, and Culture, while Shrirang Appa Chandu Barne will lead the Committee on Energy.
Radha Mohan Das Agarwal continues as chair of the Committee on Home Affairs. Anurag Singh Thakur will oversee the Committee on Coal, Mines, and Steel.
Medha Vishram Kulkarni has been appointed chair of the Committee on Science and Technology, Environment, Forest, and Climate Change, while Kanimozhi Karunanidhi will lead the Committee on Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution.
In other appointments, Shashank Mani has been made chair of the Committee on Labour, Textiles, and Skill Development, and Sunil Dattatreya Tatkare will chair the Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas.
Mugunta Srinivasulu Reddy has been named chair of the Committee on Housing and Urban Affairs, and P.C. Mohan will lead the Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment.
These newly formed parliamentary committees will review subjects related to their respective ministries and departments throughout 2026-27 and present their reports to both houses of Parliament.
