Thiruvananthapuram, March 24 : OralScan, an optical imaging device for the early detection of cancerous lesions of the oral cavity, has been donated to the Comm ty Oncology Department of Regional Cancer Centre, officials informed on Thursday. OralScan enables the physician to visualize and discriminate between healthy and potentially malignant sites of the oral cavity before they perform a biopsy. Sascan Meditech Private Limited, a startup company incubated at SCTIMST-TIMed, the Technology Business Incubator of Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, donated the OralScan, a press release said. OralScan was developed by Sascan with funding support of Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, under Nidhi seed support scheme and other innovation grants. Earlier this year, Sascan had won the National Startup India Award in the Diagnostics category. The donation was made possible with the CSR grant of HDFC Bank under the “Parivarthan Smartup Grant for Incubators” for 2021-22 which was received by TIMed. Three startups of TIMed have been selected for CSR grants of HDFC Bank this year. The device was handed over to Dr Rekha Nair, Director, RCC, by Dr Subash Narayanan (Founder, Sascan) in the presence of S Balram (CEO TIMed), Subash N (Senior Vice President, HDFC Bank) and Hari C V (Vice President, HDFC Bank).
