Kerala: Farmer who moved High Court commits suicide

Thiruvananthapuram, April 11 : A farmer, who moved the Kerala High Court seeking compensation for crop losses, was found hanging from a tree in his farm at Niranam near Thiruvalla in Pathanamthitta district of Kerala, sources said on Monday. “49-year-old Rajeev committed suicide on Sunday evening after he was unable to repay the loans taken earlier. His body was taken to Thiruvalla Taluk Hospital where the postmortem will be conducted on Monday morning,” sources said. Like many other farmers, Rajeev who was engaged in cultivation on 10 acres of leased land, had taken bank loans and also loans from a few Self Help Groups. Along with a few farmers, Rajeev had filed a writ petition in the High Court seeking proper compensation for crop losses. DS ACL0953
