New Delhi, September 15 (Daily Kiran) : Arvind Kejriwal, the national convener of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its handling of the escalating drug trade in India. He urged the BJP to learn from the Punjab government’s measures and implement effective actions against narcotics in their own states.
Kejriwal stated that instead of Pakistan, a significant amount of drugs is now being supplied to Punjab from BJP-ruled states. He noted that when the AAP took power in Punjab in 2022, it was claimed that around 80% of drugs were coming from Pakistan. However, he asserted that the Punjab government has taken substantial steps, including the implementation of an anti-drone system, to control the flow of drugs crossing the border.
According to Kejriwal, the share of drugs entering Punjab from Pakistan has now decreased to about 20%. In contrast, approximately 80% of narcotics are reportedly arriving from Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi — all BJP-ruled or influenced states. He specifically highlighted the Mundra Port in Gujarat, questioning the central government’s effectiveness in curbing drug trafficking.
He accused the central government of failing to prevent drug shipments entering the country through Mundra Port and challenged them on their ability to combat drug smuggling. Kejriwal pointed out that the BJP has been in power in Gujarat for nearly 30 years, yet they have not succeeded in completely halting the drug trade. He suggested that the government is either incapable of addressing the issue or does not wish to do so. He advised the BJP to focus on combating drugs in their own states instead of organizing campaigns in Punjab.
Kejriwal emphasized that the steps taken by the Punjab government against drug trafficking should serve as a model for the BJP. He called for a collaborative effort from all governments to tackle the drug problem, rather than politicizing the issue. He argued that if Punjab can manage to control the drug supply, then BJP-ruled states should also take decisive action in this regard.
Anurag Dhanda, the national media in-charge of AAP, echoed Kejriwal’s sentiments on social media, alleging that 80% of drugs entering Punjab are sourced from BJP-ruled states. He questioned why these states are not taking action to stop the supply. Dhanda further raised concerns about whether the BJP is colluding with drug traffickers to promote narcotics across the nation.
