Hyderabad: Telangana’s former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) has informed the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the phone tapping case that he will not be available for questioning on Friday and has requested an alternative date.
Hours after the SIT issued a notice to KCR, he wrote to the investigating officer P. Venkatgiri explaining that he is busy with municipal elections. The BRS chief stated that the nomination process is underway for elections in 116 municipalities and 7 municipal corporations, with the last date for filing nominations being January 30.
KCR further mentioned that he is occupied authorising several individuals since the elections are contested on a party basis. He suggested that the SIT may schedule the questioning as per his convenience under Section 160 of the CrPC.
Additionally, KCR requested that the investigation be conducted at his residence in Erravalli village of Siddipet district. The investigating officer’s notice had invited him to suggest any convenient location within Hyderabad city for the inquiry.
Referring to Section 160 of the CrPC, the BRS chief noted that men above 65 years of age are not required to appear at police stations; instead, the investigation team must conduct the inquiry at the individual’s residence.
He wrote, “Therefore, under Section 160 of the CrPC, you may conduct the inquiry at the above-mentioned address after prior notice. It is also clarified that Section 160 does not specify any territorial limits for conducting such inquiries. Kindly send all future notices to this address.”
KCR assured the investigating officer that as a former Chief Minister, current Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, and a responsible citizen, he will fully cooperate with the investigation.
