Bengaluru, May 6: The Karnataka Lokayukta has established a special investigation team to probe the tragic incident at Bengaluru’s Boring Hospital, where a wall collapse resulted in the deaths of seven individuals.
The incident occurred on April 29 during severe weather conditions, including heavy rain, hailstorms, and strong winds, which led to the collapse of a compound wall at the government Boring and Lady Curzon Hospital. Among the deceased were a young girl and two tourists from Kerala.
Officials reported that the investigation team convened at the city deputy commissioner’s office on Tuesday. They discussed issuing notices to individuals who will be questioned during the inquiry.
A police officer at the superintendent level has been appointed as the investigating officer. The team also includes a district judge and the chief engineer from the Lokayukta’s technical wing.
B.S. Patil has directed that the investigation be completed and a report submitted by May 16. Following the incident, Justice Patil personally inspected the site and issued a stern warning. A formal case has since been registered, prompting the formation of this specialized team for a thorough investigation.
In the meantime, the engineering team has collected samples of cement, soil, stones, and other materials from the site. Based on these samples, hospital administration officials will be summoned for questioning.
Multiple investigations are currently underway: one led by a deputy commissioner, another by the engineering team, and a third by the Lokayukta.
The compound wall, constructed of cement and bricks, collapsed near the emergency ward gate during the heavy rainfall. In addition to the fatalities, several individuals, including five women, sustained injuries.
Following the incident, the Karnataka government has ordered inspections of hospital premises across the state, with a particular focus on hospitals in Bengaluru.
