Bengaluru, May 19: Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister and state Congress president D.K. Shivakumar visited the sacred Tirumala temple on Tuesday. He prayed to Lord Venkateswara for the country’s recovery from its economic crisis and for good rainfall in the state.
His visit comes amid ongoing leadership tensions within the state, making it particularly significant. Accompanied by his wife Usha, Shivakumar performed rituals and had darshan of Lord Venkateswara early in the morning around 3 AM.
Shivakumar arrived in Tirumala on Monday evening and spent the night there before heading to Tumkur for a major event organized by the Karnataka government to celebrate its three-year anniversary.
Considered a strong contender for the Chief Minister position, Shivakumar recently mentioned that both he and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah would be called to Delhi.
Speaking to reporters after his prayers at the Tirumala Tirupati Temple, Shivakumar expressed his wishes for peace, prosperity, and good health for the people of the nation. He stated, “I prayed to Lord Venkateswara that the country should not face any economic crisis, that everyone receives strength and good health, and that there is good rainfall in the state.”
He also prayed for peace and stability in the country, enabling the nation to effectively tackle its challenges. “I prayed that the entire country remains filled with peace and faces its challenges effectively. I am very happy to be here on this significant day,” he added.
Shivakumar mentioned that it had been about six to seven years since his last visit to Tirumala. He praised the changes and development works undertaken by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD). “TTD has made several changes and development works. They have maintained discipline and cleanliness and are running excellent administration. The government has also done good work. I thank everyone,” he remarked.
Expressing his joy after visiting Lord Venkateswara, Shivakumar commended the TTD administration and its chairman for their efforts. He concluded, “I am very pleased to have had the darshan of Lord Venkateswara. The TTD chairman and his team are doing outstanding work. I also met the revenue minister, who is doing excellent work as well. I wish them all the best.”
