Mandya, September 3 (Daily Kiran) : A court in Mandya, Karnataka, has denied bail to Aishwarya, the daughter of BJP legislator Suresh Gowda, following an alleged assault on a female police sub-inspector. The incident occurred at the Aarti Ukkada pilgrimage site during a large gathering on August 12, coinciding with the Bhima Amavasya festival.
During the hearing at the Shrirangapatna Town Court, concerns were raised regarding the assault on the duty officer. Reports indicate that Aishwarya slapped the police officer after being stopped from standing near a deity. The altercation was captured on video, which subsequently went viral on social media.
Thousands of devotees had gathered at the Sri Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy Temple during the festival when the incident unfolded. An FIR was filed at the Kyatana Halli police station soon after, but Aishwarya has yet to be arrested. She is also the wife of Mandya’s Deputy Superintendent of Police, Gautam.
In her defense, Aishwarya claimed that the police officer used abusive language and placed her two children in the crowd. She also alleged that her complaint to the police was not recorded.
The rejection of her bail plea has raised questions about the police’s actions in this case. Despite the FIR being lodged, Aishwarya remains free.
According to the complaint, Aishwarya attempted to enter the temple’s sanctum via the VIP line, but she was stopped by PSI Savita B. The officer informed her that the temple was crowded and she could not enter at that moment. Aishwarya questioned why a plainclothes circle inspector was allowed inside, to which Savita explained that the inspector was on official duty.
Following a heated exchange, Aishwarya reportedly slapped Savita. The police subsequently registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 132, 115(2), 352, and 351(2).
Suresh Gowda has publicly apologized for his daughter’s behavior and called for an end to VIP privileges in temples. He stated he had advised her to maintain decorum in public life and expressed regret that the incident occurred at such an inopportune time. He confirmed that he would address the matter further.
