Bengaluru, September 7 (Daily Kiran) : Karnataka’s BJP president and legislator, BY Vijayendra, has criticized the Congress-led state government for its handling of drought management. He claims that the recent announcement of drought-hit taluks reveals a “reckless” attitude towards farmers and those in distress.
This statement follows remarks made by Congress legislator C.S. Appaji Nadagouda, who accused the government of bias in the declaration of drought-affected areas. Vijayendra asserted that the Congress government’s approach to drought management and assistance for farmers is now fully exposed.
He pointed to corruption and mismanagement as reasons for the Congress administration’s failures, suggesting that these issues have led to a lack of transparency in various matters. “The BJP has already raised strong objections to the government’s declaration of only 101 taluks as drought-affected, while over 190 taluks are experiencing drought-like conditions,” he stated.
According to Vijayendra, Nadagouda’s comments provided “clear evidence” supporting the BJP’s claims. He accused MB Patil, the minister in charge of Vijayapura district, of trying to divert public attention by clarifying Nadagouda’s statement instead of addressing the issue.
Vijayendra emphasized that the statements from both Nadagouda and Patil have revealed “internal differences and shortcomings” within the Congress government. He urged the administration to prioritize resolving the problems faced by the public, particularly regarding drought management, rather than engaging in internal political rivalries.
He warned that if the government fails to address the challenges faced by farmers and the general populace, it may soon find itself facing protests from the public.
Nadagouda has alleged that the government intentionally excluded two taluks from his constituency from the drought-affected list. He further claimed that Minister Patil’s actions were motivated by “personal animosity.”
In response, Minister Patil countered that Nadagouda was not present during two visits by the drought assessment team to his constituency and accused the legislator of making false claims in the name of farmers. He suggested that Nadagouda requires “treatment for his mental health” due to his unfounded attacks.
