New Delhi, October 20 (Daily Kiran): Australian fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has expressed his desire to play all five Test matches in the upcoming Ashes series against England, scheduled to begin on November 21.

Hazlewood, who delivered a brilliant spell in the first ODI against India in Perth, said he is confident about maintaining his fitness throughout the high-pressure Test series. He also hopes that the pitches during the Ashes resemble the one used in Sunday’s ODI, where he and his teammates enjoyed ideal conditions for pace bowling.

With Pat Cummins’ participation still uncertain due to a stress fracture in his back, Hazlewood emphasized that injuries are a natural part of a fast bowler’s career.

“That’s just the life of a fast bowler. Everyone carries some kind of niggle, but right now, I feel completely fit,” Hazlewood said. “I’m confident I can get through all five Tests without any issues.”

Since Pat Cummins took over as Australia’s Test captain in 2021, Hazlewood has missed several home matches due to injuries. However, he returned strongly during the 2023-24 home season, featuring in all five Tests against West Indies and Pakistan.

Currently, Hazlewood is part of Australia’s ODI squad against India, where he impressed with a disciplined performance in the rain-affected first match on October 19. He bowled seven overs, conceding just 20 runs, including two maiden overs, and picked up two wickets. Australia went on to win the match by seven wickets under the Duckworth-Lewis method.

The right-arm pacer has an impressive Test record, claiming 295 wickets in 76 matches at an average of 24.22, including 13 five-wicket hauls.

Hazlewood’s focus now shifts to the Ashes 2025, where Australia will host England in one of cricket’s most celebrated rivalries.
