Srinagar, April 17 : The anti-militancy operation in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district was called off on Sunday, officials said. A soldier was killed in a gunfight at Watnar Kokernag on Saturday. “There was no fresh contact with terrorists and it is possible that they managed to escape in the initial gunfight,” a security official said. Soon after the exchange of fire, additional forces were rushed to the area. A large area around the encounter site was searched by joint forces on Saturday and Sunday morning. “The operation has now been called off,” he added. They said the militants managed to escape. QAB RJ
