Jharkhand Weather Update: Relief From Intense April Heat as Kal Baisakhi Brings Rain and Wind

Ranchi, April 18 โ€” Residents of Jharkhand experienced an unexpected but welcome break from the scorching April heat this year. Thanks to the seasonal Kal Baisakhi system, most districts across the state, including the capital Ranchi, received intermittent rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds blowing at speeds of 30 to 50 km/h throughout the month.

These weather phenomena not only cooled the region but also kept the stateโ€™s overall temperature relatively moderate. Unlike previous years, April 2025 saw temperatures averaging around 35ยฐC, offering much-needed respite from the usual intense summer conditions.

Consistent Rain and Storm Activity Help Regulate Temperature

Typically known for harsh summer spells, regions such as Palamu, Garhwa, East Singhbhum, Dhanbad, Simdega, and Chatra reported lower-than-usual temperatures this April. While there were occasional surges in daytime heat in these districts, the persistent Kal Baisakhi-induced changes in the atmosphere helped break the cycle of extreme temperatures.

This unusual shift marks a significant deviation from previous years, when April often brought with it unbearable heatwaves.

Yellow Alert Issued for Lightning and High-Speed Winds

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for several districts in Jharkhand through April 21. The alert predicts possible thunderstorms, lightning strikes, and gusty winds with speeds of 30โ€“40 km/h in parts of the state.

Residents are advised to stay indoors during peak storm periods and remain cautious of weather fluctuations. The weather departmentโ€™s forecast is aimed at preventing incidents caused by lightning or falling trees due to high winds.

Temperature Report for Major Cities in Jharkhand

According to IMD, Fridayโ€™s maximum temperatures in key Jharkhand cities were as follows:

  • Ranchi: 31.1ยฐC

  • Jamshedpur: 37.7ยฐC

  • Daltonganj (Palamu): 39.4ยฐC

  • Bokaro: 33.2ยฐC

  • Chaibasa: 38ยฐC

Despite a few hot days in April, these numbers are significantly lower than previous years, thanks to the cooling effect of recurring Kal Baisakhi systems.
