Ranchi, August 9: Three members of the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC)—Ajita Bhattacharya, Anima Hansda, and Jamal Ahmed—resigned on Sunday amid a growing controversy over alleged exam irregularities.
The trio submitted their resignations to Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar. The reasons for their resignations have not yet been disclosed.
This development is significant as the Jharkhand Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is investigating alleged irregularities in the JPSC recruitment exams and had summoned the three serving members for questioning.
The JPSC is already embroiled in controversies regarding alleged irregularities and fraud in recently conducted competitive examinations. Candidates have been protesting for a fair and transparent investigation into the exam process.
The resignations of the three members are viewed against this backdrop. The CID is set to question each of the members separately regarding the alleged irregularities.
According to official sources, Ajita Bhattacharya will be questioned on Monday, Anima Hansda on Tuesday, and Jamal Ahmed on Wednesday. They may also be called for further questioning.
Previously, the CID had interrogated former JPSC chairman and ex-chief secretary L. Khiangte in four phases. They sought information about various aspects of the exam process and decisions made at the commission level.
The investigation agency is gathering information regarding the exam process and the alleged irregularities. Based on the facts uncovered during the questioning, further actions are being prepared.
Sources indicate that additional arrests may occur in the coming days based on leads discovered during the investigation. So far, the CID has arrested four candidates and three alleged intermediaries in connection with exam fraud.
