Ranchi, February 13: Former Chief Minister of Jharkhand and Opposition Leader Babulal Marandi has accused the state government of violating rules and procedures in the appointment of the Director General of Police (DGP). He referenced recent Supreme Court directives, stating that the appointment should be made from among the officers listed in the UPSC-approved list.

This process is required to be completed within a month. Marandi asserted that the Supreme Court’s directives indicate arbitrary actions regarding the DGP appointment in Jharkhand.

He claimed to have fought a long legal battle on this issue, and now a positive outcome is emerging. Marandi mentioned the current DGP, Tadasha Mishra, acknowledging her competence but argued that her continued tenure after retirement is not legally justified. He urged her to resign on moral grounds.

He emphasized that the government must act in accordance with the Supreme Court’s orders. Prior to this, the concerned official should make a decision independently. The Opposition Leader expressed confusion as to why an officer, who has maintained a controversy-free service record, would become embroiled in such disputes.

Marandi warned that this situation could tarnish her long administrative career. He called for an investigation into the legitimacy of previous DGP appointments made improperly in Jharkhand.

He stated his readiness to approach the High Court and the Supreme Court for the recovery of salaries and other amounts received, as well as for a review of decisions and an investigation into assets.
