Jharkhand Honors Fallen Police Officers on Remembrance Day

Jharkhand commemorates police officers who sacrificed their lives in duty during the state’s Police Remembrance Day ceremonies.

Ranchi, October 21 (Daily Kiran) : On October 21, Jharkhand observed Police Remembrance Day with ceremonies held across the state to honor police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty. A state-level event took place at the Jharkhand Armed Police-1 (JAP-1) complex in Doranda, Ranchi, where the sacrifices of 154 police officers from across the country, including three from Jharkhand, were remembered.

The fallen officers from Jharkhand included Hemant Bhagat, a sub-inspector from Dumka, and constables Sunil Ram and Santan Kumar Mehta from Palamu. During the main ceremony in Ranchi, Director General of Police Tadasha Mishra laid a floral wreath at the memorial to pay tribute to the brave souls. The event also recognized 20 police officers from the Ranchi district who had died while fulfilling their duties.

Mishra remarked on the challenges faced by police officers, highlighting the stress and difficulties inherent in their jobs. She noted that despite these challenges, officers continue to fulfill their responsibilities, sometimes making the ultimate sacrifice. The purpose of Remembrance Day, she emphasized, is to honor the contributions of these officers and to express respect for their sacrifices.

In addition to the main ceremony, a program was also held at the Jharkhand Jaguar (STF) headquarters in Tendergram, where IG Anup Birthere and DIG Indrajit Mahatha paid their respects at the memorial. The names of the fallen police officers were read aloud, and security personnel saluted with their weapons lowered, followed by a two-minute silence in remembrance.

IG Birthere stated that the sacrifices made by police officers for the peace and security of the state would always be remembered. Their courage and dedication serve as an inspiration for future generations. Similar remembrance parades and tribute programs were conducted in various districts, including Palamu, Dumka, Hazaribagh, Jamshedpur, Latehar, Garhwa, Dhanbad, and Sahibganj. Officials visited the families of the deceased officers, offering their support and condolences.
