Patna: The Janata Dal (United) has strongly criticised the protests held at Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus supporting Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam. JDU national spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan Prasad stated that no form of anarchy can be accepted in the country.
The protests erupted late at night following the Supreme Court’s rejection of bail petitions for Umar Khalid and Sharjeel Imam. During the demonstrations, controversial slogans were raised, drawing widespread condemnation.
Speaking to news agencies, Rajiv Ranjan Prasad emphasised, “The Supreme Court has passed the decision, and its verdict is binding on all parties. Therefore, the nature of the protest must be condemned by everyone. Activities that promote disorder are absolutely unacceptable.”
Regarding the comment by Samajwadi Party leader Shivraj Singh Yadav, who said, “I am not Hindu, I am Yadav,” Prasad remarked, “It is a personal right of individuals to follow any religion they choose. Faith is a private matter and no one has the right to comment or react on it.”
On the situation in Bangladesh, Rajiv Ranjan Prasad appealed to global powers for decisive action. He said, “The conditions in Bangladesh are deteriorating rapidly. Mere condemnation and warnings are insufficient. The global community, including the United Nations and major peace-loving nations, has expressed concern over the political situation. It is now crucial to take effective steps.”
Addressing the US actions in Venezuela, Prasad noted that the Indian government has made its stance clear and is closely monitoring the developments. He added, “JDU is a constituent of the NDA and aligns with the central government on foreign policy and strategic decisions.”
