Mumbai, March 5: Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor is often associated with her legendary mother, Sridevi. With hard work and dedication, Janhvi has made her mark in the film industry. Since childhood, she had a passion for acting, but her mother Sridevi preferred that she pursue a different path. Sridevi wanted Janhvi to complete her education and become a doctor.
Janhvi Kapoor was born on March 6, 1997, in Mumbai. She is the elder daughter of Sridevi and Boney Kapoor. Her family has deep roots in the film industry. Her grandfather, Surinder Kapoor, was a film producer, and her uncles, Anil Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor, are also active in films. Despite her desire to enter acting, Sridevi aimed to keep her away from the industry.
In an episode of the talk show “Too Much with Kajol and Twinkle,” Janhvi revealed that her mother wanted to shield her from the acting world. She shared that Sridevi never wanted her to pursue acting.
Janhvi stated in an interview, “Being an actress herself, my mom was very protective of me. She was quite strict. She thought I was too naive and wouldn’t survive in Bollywood. She wanted me to become a doctor. She would tell me, ‘I don’t want to see you become an actress. This was the worst time for me.’”
However, with the support of her father, Boney Kapoor, Janhvi convinced her mother and stepped into Bollywood in 2018. She made her debut in Shashank Khaitan’s film “Dhadak,” opposite actor Ishaan Khatter. This film was the Hindi remake of the Marathi blockbuster “Sairat.” It performed well at the box office, earning Janhvi the Zee Cine Award for Best Female Debut.
Janhvi faced immense sorrow early in her career when her mother, Sridevi, passed away on February 24, 2018, in Dubai. At that time, Janhvi was just 20 years old.
Following “Dhadak,” Janhvi took on several challenging roles. In 2020, she portrayed an Indian Air Force pilot in the film “Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl.” Her performance received critical acclaim, earning her a nomination for the Filmfare Award. In 2022, she starred in the thriller “Mili,” playing a character trapped in a freezer, which also garnered her a nomination for Best Actress at the Filmfare Awards.
In 2024, Janhvi Kapoor ventured into the Telugu film industry, collaborating with Junior NTR in “Devara: Part 1.” She is currently in the spotlight for her upcoming film “Peddha,” alongside Ram Charan.
