Baramulla police have detained a notorious drug trafficker, Mujamil Majid Bhat, as part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking.

Baramulla, October 23 (Daily Kiran) : The Jammu and Kashmir police have taken decisive action against drug trafficking in Baramulla district. On Friday, they arrested a notorious drug dealer under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT-NDPS).
Authorities identified the arrested individual as Mujamil Majid Bhat, also known as Hashim. He is the son of Abdul Majid Bhat and resides in Mohalla Meer Sahib, Baramulla. Multiple FIRs have been filed against him.
Following the issuance of a warrant, Bhat was detained in accordance with legal procedures and is currently being held at the Central Jail in Kot Bhalwal, Jammu. This operation is part of the police’s ongoing efforts to dismantle drug trafficking networks and curb substance abuse in the region.
In Jammu and Kashmir, actions against individuals under the PIT-NDPS Act, enacted in 1988, include administrative preventive detention and collateral enforcement measures. To prevent recidivism in drug trafficking, authorized detention officials, such as divisional commissioners from Kashmir or Jammu, can issue preventive custody orders under Section 3 of the Act.
Additionally, the law allows for the seizure or cancellation of passports by regional passport officers under Sections 6 and 10 of the Passport Act. Driving licenses can also be revoked by the RTO or ARTO under Section 19 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Other measures include deactivation of Aadhaar cards through UIDAI, cancellation of weapon licenses by district magistrates, and revocation of contractor licenses by the registration department. The police can also withdraw security provided by the IGP Security and issue lookout circulars through the immigration bureau.
These stringent measures reflect the commitment of Jammu and Kashmir authorities to combat drug trafficking and hold offenders accountable.
