Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Team Gifts GI-Tagged Willow Bat to Piyush Goyal

New Delhi, April 28: The Jammu and Kashmir cricket team recently met with Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. During this meeting, the team presented him with a GI-tagged willow bat, signed by all team members.

Piyush Goyal shared a photo of the Jammu and Kashmir team along with the bat on the social media platform X, stating, “I am truly delighted to receive this thoughtfully presented GI-tagged willow bat from the Ranji Trophy champions, the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team. It showcases the exquisite craftsmanship and spirit of cricket from Jammu and Kashmir.”

Notably, under the captaincy of Paras Dogra, Jammu and Kashmir ended a 67-year drought by winning the Ranji Trophy for the first time. This historic moment came after they drew the final match against Karnataka.

In the championship match, Jammu and Kashmir scored 584 runs in their first innings. Shubham Pundir played a remarkable innings, scoring 121 runs, while Yawar Hasan contributed 88 runs. Additionally, Sahil Lothra added 72 runs to the total.

In contrast, the Karnataka team was all out for just 293 runs in their first innings. In their second innings, Jammu and Kashmir scored 342 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. With a first-innings lead of 291 runs, Jammu and Kashmir became the Ranji champions for the first time, thanks in part to fast bowler Aaqib Nabi Dar, who played a crucial role in the final match by taking 5 wickets.

Throughout the tournament, Aaqib claimed a total of 60 wickets. Meanwhile, captain Paras Dogra also had an impressive performance, scoring 637 runs at an average of 49.53 over 10 matches. Abdul Samad emerged as the highest run-scorer for Jammu and Kashmir in the tournament, amassing 748 runs at an average of 69, including one century and five half-centuries.
