Moscow, August 25: India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar engaged in extensive discussions with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. The two leaders addressed India-Russia cooperation, regional crises, global challenges, and multilateral issues.
Jaishankar shared on the social media platform ‘X’, “Had a comprehensive conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. We discussed bilateral cooperation, regional sensitive issues, global challenges, and multilateral topics.”
This meeting took place amid ongoing high-level contacts between India and Russia on bilateral, regional, and international matters. Earlier in the day, Jaishankar met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow and delivered a ‘personal message’ from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Following the meeting, Jaishankar posted on ‘X’, “It was a pleasure to meet President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. I conveyed a personal message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
Before meeting Putin, Jaishankar co-chaired the 27th session of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission (IRIGC-Tech) with Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov. This session reviewed various issues related to trade, economy, science, technology, and cultural cooperation.
Jaishankar informed Putin about the discussions held during the 27th IRIGC-Tech, highlighting the ongoing collaboration between the two nations across various sectors. He emphasized the importance of Putin’s guidance on these matters and discussed issues of regional and global significance.
According to a statement from the Kremlin, Putin remarked that Jaishankar’s visit reflects the strong ties built over decades between Russia and India. He stated, “We are working together in almost all areas, including government-level relations, parliamentary contacts, and economic cooperation. I am pleased to report that our trade has increased this year. There was a slight decline last year, but it is on the rise again this year. A significant reason for this, perhaps the most significant, is Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who personally focuses on strengthening Russia-India relations.”
He noted that cooperation between the two countries continues to progress, with positive growth in trade relations.
