Jodhpur, October 15 (Daily Kiran): The bodies of 19 victims who lost their lives in the tragic Jaisalmer bus fire incident on Tuesday afternoon have been brought to Jodhpur for DNA testing before being handed over to their families. The bodies have been kept at the mortuaries of Mahatma Gandhi Hospital (MGH) and AIIMS Jodhpur.

According to Dr. Fateh Singh Bhati, Superintendent of MGH, nine bodies have been kept at MGH and ten at AIIMS, while one body was already in Jodhpur. He said five injured persons remain on ventilator support, and the condition of eight others is still critical.
The accident occurred around 3:30 pm on Tuesday near Thaiyat village on the Jaisalmer–Jodhpur highway, when a private bus caught fire due to an air-conditioner short circuit. The massive blaze claimed 20 lives and left 15 others injured, some with severe burns. The bus, carrying 57 passengers, had been newly registered earlier this month.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma visited both Jaisalmer and Jodhpur’s MGH late on Tuesday night to review the situation and meet the injured.
After inspecting the accident site, State Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar said the fire may have been caused by an AC compressor explosion, which triggered a blast and spread flames rapidly as gas mixed with diesel. “There was only one door in the bus, which caused people to get trapped. Passengers sitting in the front managed to escape. The Army helped recover the bodies that could be identified; the rest were completely charred,” he said.
Meanwhile, Pandit S.K. Joshi, State President of the Sarv Brahmin Samaj, has urged the Chief Minister to announce ₹50 lakh compensation for each deceased and ₹10 lakh assistance for the injured.
