Jagan’s new cabinet : Simmering discontent erupts in YSRCP

Vijayawada, April 11 : As soon as the the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) had announced the names of those who were being inducted into the Cabinet, on Sunday, simmering discontent has erupted in the party as some leaders openly expressed anger over the high command for not not taking them into the Cabinet. Dalit woman leader and Home Minister in the previous Cabinet Mekathoti Sucharita has resigned to her MLA post. The followers of some of the YSRCP leaders organised rasta rokos, set fire to motorcycles and raised slogans against Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Monday. Senior leaders of the YSRCP who were the Ministers in the previous Cabinet including Balineni Srinivasa Reddy and Mekathoti Sucharita were not taken into the Cabinet this time. Balineni Srinivasa Reddy, who held the Electricity and Environment portfolio in the previous Cabinet, is one of the powerful leaders in the YSRCP. He has been elected to the Assembly for four times and he is also a close relative to Jagan Mohan Reddy. The followers of Sucharita staged a rasta roko in Guntur and set fire to tyres on the road. YSRCP Rajya Sabha MP Mopidevi Venkataramana went to her house to mollify her but he could not appease her. Sucharita’s daughter Rishika told the media that her mother resigned her MLA post and handed over the letter to the MP. However, she continues as a YSRCP member, she said. The followers of YSRCP MLA Samineni Udayabhanu held rasta roko on the Vijayawada-Hyderabad Highway at Jaggayyapet and set fire to a motorcycle in which two activists sustained burn injuries. The followers of another party MLA K Parthasarati who aspired for a Cabinet berth, registered their protests on the road. Meanwhile, Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy, Advisor (Public affairs) to the government went to Balineni Srinivasa Reddy’s residence twice to pacify him. Sources said that the former minister asked Reddy why he was excluded while another minister in the old Cabinet Adimulapu Suresh of the same district was taken to the Cabinet. The followers of MLA Anna Rambabu also blocked roads for not taking into the Cabinet. YSRCP legislator Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy could not control his emotions as his hope of ministerial berth was dashed and wept before the media. Large number of followers of Balineni, including an MLA, an MLC and Mayor of Ongole, held a meeting to evolve strategy. Several local body heads announced that they were going to resign to the posts in protest against the denial of Ministerial berth to Balineni Srinivasa Reddy. Discontent erupted in various districts but the YSRCP senior leaders are trying to mollify them by offering nominated posts. Interestingly no leader belonging to Brahmin, Vysya, Kamma and Kshatriya was taken into the Cabinet during the reshuffle this morning. The ruling YSRCP, which had won 151 seats out of the total 175 seats in the 2019 Assembly election, is witnessing dissidence in a big way for the first time after reshuffle. DP CS1416
