Mohali(Punjab), March 5 : Ravindra Jadeja’s message about the pitch taking spin while batting could have persuaded the team management to declare India’s first innings, which denied the Saurashtra allrounder to get to his maiden Test double hundred. “Yeah there was a message coming from inside and I was also telling them. When I was batting, balls had started taking spin and there was variable bounce. “So I told them that the wicket is playing tricks and we can put them (Sri Lanka) into bat,” he said in the press conference after Day 2 of the first Test against Sri Lanka here on Saturday. “They were on the field for almost two days and were naturally tired. So it wouldn’t have been easy for them to come out and start playing shots and stay further on the field. So our plan was to score quickly and declare as soon as possible,” Jadeja added. The Indian allrounder was responding to a question amid uproar among the Indian fans over skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid’s decision to declare the innings, denying Jadeja a double ton. He was unbeaten on 175 when the innings was declared at 574 for 8. On his unbeaten 175 runs knock, Jadeja said he was happy with his performance as it propelled India to a mammoth first innings total. “This knock was possible due to judicious shot selection.” Replying to a query, Jadeja said his plan to dismiss Sri Lanka skipper Dimuth Karunaratne leg before wicket was to bowl a stump-to-stump line as he got purchase from the turning and bouncy wicket.
