Mumbai: Renowned singer and composer A.R. Rahman is celebrating his birthday today. Marking this special occasion, actor Jackie Shroff shared heartfelt birthday wishes for Rahman on his Instagram Stories.
Jackie posted pictures of the celebrated musician and wrote, “Happy birthday, A.R. Rahman. Our prayers will always be with you.”
A.R. Rahman was born in Chennai and his original name is A.S. Dileep Kumar. He developed an early connection with music and took on family responsibilities after the passing of his father. Rahman initially composed music for advertisements and documentaries during the early phase of his career.
South Indian filmmaker Mani Ratnam gave Rahman his first break in films. Rahman composed the music for the 1992 film Roja, whose soundtrack became a major success. For this work, Mani Ratnam paid him a fee of 25,000 rupees.
Since then, Rahman has established himself as a distinguished composer, singer, and producer in both Indian and international cinema. He has been honoured with prestigious awards including the Padma Shri, two Grammy Awards, two Oscars for Slumdog Millionaire, as well as numerous national and Filmfare awards. Rahman has composed for over 145 films across various languages, making him one of the most successful music directors worldwide.
On a related note, Jackie Shroff’s recent film Tu Meri Main Tera, directed by Sameer Vidwans and produced under Dharma Productions and Namah Pictures, was released on 25 December. The movie features Kartik Aaryan, Ananya Panday, Jackie Shroff, and Neena Gupta in significant roles. However, the film has not performed remarkably at the box office.
