New Delhi, May 19: Former Indian cricketer Ambati Rayudu has praised Ishan Kishan for his outstanding performance. In the 63rd match of IPL 2026 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Ishan played a remarkable innings, scoring 70 runs, leading Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) to a 5-wicket victory.
With this win, SRH has secured a place in the playoffs. Ishan showcased his skills on the challenging pitch at MA Chidambaram Cricket Stadium. He formed a crucial partnership of 75 runs with Heinrich Klaasen, which proved to be the turning point of the match.
Speaking to ESPN Cricinfo, Rayudu said, “The ball was sticking on this pitch and turning. I believe Ishan Kishan took the responsibility to steer the team forward. He has performed well on several tough pitches this season. This shows how versatile he is. He can attack and also stabilize the innings when conditions are tough. He is a fantastic asset.”
Rayudu also discussed the development of the wicketkeeper-batsman this season. He noted Ishan’s ability to find gaps and mentioned that he has even captained the team in the absence of Pat Cummins. “I think he is becoming a very, very big asset for any team he plays for, and he has performed excellently. When needed, he comes in after Klaasen and utilizes any gaps available. He doesn’t swing at everything; he knows where the bowlers are trying to bowl away from him. He has the patience and understanding to play shots into the gaps,” Rayudu added.
With the victory over Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad has solidified their playoff position, accumulating 16 points from 13 matches. SRH will face Royal Challengers Bangalore in their final league match on May 22.
