Washington, January 29 – Talks between the United States and Iran over a nuclear deal have stalled, with no progress made on limiting Iran’s nuclear programme and ballistic missile production. US President Donald Trump issued a stern warning of military action against Iran, prompting a fierce response from Tehran.
Iran has vowed to respond immediately to any American military strike. A top advisor to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned that if an attack occurs, Israel will be targeted in retaliation.
Recently, large-scale protests erupted across Iran against the Khamenei government. Media reports suggest thousands of protesters were killed and many more arrested amid violent crackdowns by security forces.
On Wednesday, President Trump posted on Truth Social, warning that the next US strike on Iran would be far worse than the attacks last summer. In 2025, US forces targeted three Iranian nuclear sites, killing several Iranian scientists.
Trump wrote, “A large armada of warships is heading towards Iran with great speed, strength, and purpose. It is bigger than the fleet sent to Venezuela, led by the great aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln. Like Venezuela, it is ready and capable of completing its mission swiftly if needed. Hopefully, Iran will soon come to the negotiating table for a fair and equal deal. There is no nuclear weapon that is good for all parties.”
He added, “Time is running out. It is very important. As I have said before, make a deal. They did not, and Operation Midnight Hammer was launched, causing great devastation in Iran. The next attack will be worse. Do not let this happen again.”
According to US media sources, current military options under consideration include strikes on Iranian leaders and security officials responsible for killings in Iran, as well as attacks on nuclear sites and government institutions.
Though no final decision has been made, the President believes military options have increased since early this month. The US carrier strike group is moving closer to Iran via the Indian Ocean.
This escalation follows ongoing tensions and highlights the fragile state of US-Iran relations amid stalled nuclear negotiations and internal unrest in Iran.
