New Delhi, August 11: Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and German Foreign Minister Johan Wadephul held a phone conversation regarding regional conditions and the security of the Hormuz Strait. During their discussion, both ministers emphasized that Iran holds the military actions of the US and Israel responsible for the rising tensions and stressed the importance of continuing diplomatic efforts.
According to the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), Araghchi and Wadephul discussed their mutual relations along with regional and international situations. Araghchi informed Wadephul about ongoing talks with Oman, aimed at ensuring a safe passage for vessels through the Hormuz Strait.
The Iranian Foreign Minister stated that the insecurity in this crucial maritime route is a direct result of military actions taken against Iran by the US and Israel. He urged the international community to hold the US administration accountable for the security and economic implications arising from the potential closure of the Hormuz Strait.
IRNA reported that Araghchi emphasized the necessity of ending the US’s aggressive actions and illegal interventions to restore security in this waterway. This includes the maritime blockade and alleged violations of US commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum.
Both foreign ministers also highlighted the importance of maintaining diplomatic dialogue and contact at various levels. Previously, Araghchi clarified that there are currently no negotiations with the US. However, some mediators are still seeking ways to restart discussions. From their perspective, talks cannot resume until the US ceases its violations of the agreement and addresses previous breaches.
