IPL 2026: Urvil Patels Storm Leads CSK to Victory Over LSG

Chennai, May 10: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) secured a thrilling victory against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 5 wickets in the 53rd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 on Sunday. This win propelled CSK up the points table.

With 6 wins out of 11 matches, CSK now sits in fifth place. In contrast, LSG finds itself at the bottom, having lost 8 out of 11 matches.

Batting first after losing the toss at MA Chidambaram Stadium, LSG scored 203 runs, losing 8 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. The opening pair of Josh Inglis and Mitchell Marsh gave a strong start, putting together a partnership of 77 runs in just 5.1 overs.

Mitchell Marsh was dismissed for 10 runs, while Josh Inglis scored a remarkable 85 runs off 33 balls, hitting 6 sixes and 10 fours. After the departure of the opening duo, LSG lost their sixth wicket at a score of 147.

Shahbaz Ahmed then partnered with Himmat Singh for the seventh wicket, adding 50 runs in 32 balls to boost the team’s total. Shahbaz remained unbeaten on 43 runs from 25 balls, while Himmat contributed 17 runs off 12 balls. Jamie Overton was the standout bowler for CSK, taking 3 wickets, while Anshul Kamboj claimed 2 and Noor Ahmad took 1.

In response, CSK chased down the target in 19.2 overs. Sanju Samson and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad formed a partnership of 45 runs in just 3.4 overs. Sanju scored 28 runs off 14 balls, including 2 sixes and 3 fours.

Urvil Patel then played a blistering innings, scoring a half-century in just 13 balls, tying the record for the fastest fifty in IPL history alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. He and Ruturaj Gaikwad added 81 runs for the second wicket in just 34 balls, putting CSK on the path to victory.

Urvil scored 65 runs off 23 balls, hitting 8 sixes and 2 fours, while Gaikwad made 42 runs off 28 balls with 5 boundaries. Prashant Veer and Shivam Dube then sealed the win with an unbeaten partnership of 39 runs in 19 balls. Dube finished with 15 runs off 7 balls, while Prashant remained not out on 18 runs from 12 balls.
