IPL 2026: Sanjay Bangar Critiques Shreyas Iyers Decisions in Punjab Kings Loss

New Delhi, May 12: In an exciting IPL 2026 match held on Monday evening in Dharamshala, Punjab Kings faced off against Delhi Capitals. Despite scoring 210 runs, Punjab suffered a disappointing defeat. Former all-rounder Sanjay Bangar has identified key reasons behind Punjab Kings’ loss.

Speaking to Jio Hotstar, Bangar stated, “Captain Shreyas Iyer made a strategic error by not utilizing Yuzvendra Chahal. He should have bowled Chahal during the middle overs. Chahal is a match-winner and has proven himself in high-pressure situations. Not giving him the ball was a significant mistake.”

Bangar emphasized, “At least one over from Chahal was necessary, especially towards the end of the 13th over when the ball was changed. It was the perfect time to introduce spin bowling and apply pressure. Punjab lost the match due to small mistakes.”

The former all-rounder noted that Punjab failed to capitalize on their winning position and showed a lack of control among bowlers in the final stages of the innings, compounded by heavy dew that complicated their plans.

Bangar remarked, “Punjab Kings started the season with six wins, but four consecutive losses have dented the team’s confidence. The match against Delhi was in their grasp. They were in a winning position but let it slip away.”

This defeat marks Punjab’s fourth consecutive loss. Following this match, Punjab stands fourth in the rankings with six wins out of eleven matches. They have experienced a streak of six wins followed by four losses, with one match against KKR being washed out due to rain.

In terms of the match, Punjab batted first, setting a target of 210 runs. Delhi Capitals chased down the target, scoring 216 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in just 19 overs.
