
Lucknow, May 8: In the 50th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) opener Mitchell Marsh showcased his exceptional form. On Thursday, at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Marsh faced 24 balls during the powerplay, scoring an impressive 58 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). This marks the fourth instance in IPL history where a player from LSG has completed a half-century within the first six overs. Only two players have achieved this feat so far.
In this match, Marsh remained unbeaten with 58 runs from 24 balls, forming a crucial 68-run partnership with Arshin Kulkarni. LSG managed to go through the initial six overs without losing a wicket.
Mitchell Marsh holds the two highest scores for LSG during the powerplay. Previously, in 2025, he scored an unbeaten 60 runs off 30 balls against Mumbai Indians (MI) in a similar scenario.
Besides Marsh, Kyle Mayers is the only other LSG player to have completed a half-century during the powerplay, achieving this twice. In IPL 2023, Mayers scored an unbeaten 54 runs off 24 balls against Punjab Kings (PBKS) and 53 runs off 24 balls against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the same season.
In the ongoing match in Lucknow, RCB won the toss and opted to bowl first. Due to rain interruptions, LSG had completed nine overs, scoring 95 runs without losing a wicket. At that point, Marsh had already amassed 76 runs off 32 balls, hitting seven sixes and as many fours, while Kulkarni contributed 17 runs from 22 balls.
