Kolkata, May 20: In the 65th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, the Mumbai Indians (MI) set a target of 148 runs against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Wednesday.
Batting first after losing the toss at Eden Gardens, MI managed to score only 147 runs, losing 8 wickets in the process. The team faced an early setback, losing Ryan Rickelton for just 6 runs on the third ball of the third over, leaving them at a mere 17 runs. Naman Dheer followed suit, getting out for a duck on the last ball of the same over.
By the time MI reached 41 runs, they had already lost key players Rohit Sharma (15) and Suryakumar Yadav (15). After 8 overs, MI stood at 57 runs with 4 wickets down when rain interrupted the match. Fortunately, no overs were deducted when play resumed.
Hardik Pandya then partnered with Tilak Varma to add 43 runs for the fifth wicket, bringing the score to 84. Tilak scored 20 runs off 32 balls before getting out, while captain Hardik contributed 26 runs. Corbin Bosch remained unbeaten at 32 runs, hitting 2 sixes and 3 fours off 18 balls.
From KKR’s bowling side, Saurabh Dubey, Cameron Green, and Kartik Tyagi each took 2 wickets, while Sunil Narine claimed 1 wicket.
With this match, KKR aims to keep their playoff hopes alive. Currently, they have won 5 out of 12 matches, placing them 8th on the points table. Meanwhile, MI has lost 8 out of 12 matches, sitting at 9th place.
