
Lucknow, May 15: In a thrilling match at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batted first after losing the toss against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), scoring 187 runs for the loss of 5 wickets, thanks to a stellar half-century from young batsman Karthik Sharma.
CSK’s start was rocky, losing their first three wickets for just 52 runs in 7.2 overs. Samson scored 20 runs, Gaikwad made 9, and Urvil Patel contributed 6 before being dismissed. Karthik Sharma and Dewald Brevis steadied the innings with a crucial partnership of 70 runs for the fourth wicket. Coming in at number four, Karthik Sharma played a brilliant innings of 71 runs off 42 balls, hitting 5 sixes and 6 fours. This marked his second half-century of the season. Dewald Brevis added 25 runs off 16 balls but failed to convert his promising start into a bigger score.
In the final overs, Shivam Dube and Prashant Veer combined for a rapid 45 runs off the last 24 balls, pushing the team’s total to 187. Dube’s explosive finish included 2 sixes and 2 fours in the last four balls of the innings. He scored 32 runs off 16 balls, while Prashant Veer remained unbeaten with 13 runs off 10 balls.
For LSG, Akash Maharaj Singh delivered an impressive bowling performance, taking 3 wickets for just 26 runs in 4 overs. He dismissed Samson, Gaikwad, and Urvil Patel, shaking up CSK’s top order. Mohammad Shami and Shahbaz Ahmed each took 1 wicket, while Prince Yadav conceded 49 runs in 4 overs without claiming a wicket. Mayank Yadav also bowled 4 overs, giving away 26 runs but failed to take a wicket.
