Intense Gunfight in Sonipat: Police Clash with Notorious Criminals

Sonipat, May 20: A fierce encounter erupted late Tuesday night between Crime Unit-1 and notorious criminals in Sonipat, Haryana. The clash took place in the fields near village Gourad, where multiple rounds of gunfire were exchanged. During the police’s counteraction, one criminal was shot in the leg, while another was apprehended at the scene. Notably, CIA Inspector Rajeev’s bulletproof jacket was hit, but he narrowly escaped injury.

According to reports, the Crime Unit-1 received information about two suspicious individuals armed in the fields near village Gourad. Acting on this tip-off, the police team arrived at the location and attempted to apprehend the suspects. However, the criminals opened fire on the police. In the ensuing exchange, notorious criminal Raju, also known as Banda, was shot in the leg, while his accomplice Sanjay from Bahadurgarh was arrested.

Following the encounter, police recovered an illegal .32 caliber pistol and a ice-pick from the criminals’ possession. Injured criminal Raju was admitted to the civil hospital in Kharkhoda for treatment, while continuous interrogation of the arrested suspect Sanjay is underway.

During the encounter, a bullet struck CIA Inspector Rajeev’s bulletproof jacket. After the incident, a heavy police presence was deployed in the area to conduct a search operation.

Police reports indicate that both criminals have extensive criminal records. Raju, also known as Banda, faces over a dozen serious charges, including murder, robbery, dacoity, gang wars, and violations of the Jail Act and Arms Act. Similarly, arrested suspect Sanjay is linked to multiple cases of theft, robbery, murder, and Arms Act violations in Bahadurgarh and the Rohini area of Delhi.

Kharkhoda ACP Joginder Sharma stated that the Crime Unit received confidential information regarding two armed individuals roaming in the fields. As the police team attempted to encircle them, the suspects opened fire. In the retaliatory action, one suspect was injured, and the other was arrested. He emphasized that both accused have numerous criminal cases against them, and a thorough investigation is ongoing.
