Lucknow, March 8: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, under the guidance of Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, a significant initiative was launched at Jan Bhawan, Lucknow. One hundred and twenty female students from King George Medical University (KGMU) received the first dose of the HPV (Human Papillomavirus) vaccine for cervical cancer prevention. This initiative aims to promote women’s health security and awareness.
Governor Anandiben Patel extended her best wishes to the students on International Women’s Day, stating that this day symbolizes the respect for women. However, she emphasized that women’s safety and respect should be ensured every day. She remarked that there should never be a day when women face insecurity or difficulties without society standing by them.
The Governor highlighted the special responsibility that health institutions and medical professionals have towards society, as they are directly connected to patients and their lives. She stressed the importance of human values such as sensitivity, empathy, and dedication in medical services. The way a doctor interacts with patients and their families plays a crucial role in the healing process.
She urged the students to draw inspiration from the exemplary behavior of their teachers and senior medical professionals, adopting human values in their medical practice and maintaining sensitivity towards patients.
Governor Patel noted that the HPV vaccination initiative began nearly three years ago at Jan Bhawan, where the daughters of its employees received all three doses. Since then, a large-scale HPV vaccination campaign has been underway in Uttar Pradesh with the support of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
She announced that a recent memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between Jan Bhawan and the Serum Institute of India, Pune, under which three hundred thousand free vaccine doses will be provided to girls in all eight aspirational districts of the state. She expressed her happiness that various organizations and community members are actively supporting this public welfare initiative.
The Governor also mentioned that an HPV vaccination campaign is being conducted for the daughters of police personnel, which started in Lucknow and has now expanded to nearly all districts in the state. She stated that the HPV vaccination is not just a health program but a campaign to raise awareness in society. Encouraging people to inform and motivate girls for vaccination is a collective responsibility of the community.
Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a national campaign for HPV vaccination to protect girls from cervical cancer from Ajmer, Rajasthan. This initiative is a significant step towards women’s health security. The Governor concluded by stating that community service is a highly virtuous endeavor. Serving society with honesty and dedication not only benefits people but also pleases God.
